1 Lasam is where it all started for Bonanza Venture Holdings (BVH). From being the residence of our late founder, Dato K.K. Lim, back in 1975, 1 Lasam has now been transformed into a progressive headquarters for the group, and further twins as a modern meeting space as well as an exhibition space by ipohWorld featuring old-world artefacts, paraphernalia and collectibles.
This award-winning green building was conceptualised back in 2014, at a time when the Green Building Index (GBI) rating tool was new and there were no other green buildings in the state of Perak. The idea of building the first ever GBI Platinum building in the state was to resonate with BVH’s motto of being a pioneer in the many businesses it has ventured in since decades ago.
Currently holding a provisional Platinum Status in the GBI grading system, 1 Lasam was also awarded the Silver Award in the Sustainable Development Goal Category by the Malaysian Institute of Architects, or Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) in June 2022.
Measuring about 30,000sqf, most of this 5-storey office block consists of workspaces with ancillary spaces such as conference rooms and gallery spaces. The design team from Kuee Architect explored the concept of floating boxes, which further developed into a box-in-box geometry design.
The higher floors are lifted up and supported by a bold V-shape column to allow for vehicle circulation on the street level. To further resonate the V-shape land and V-shape column, V-shape balustrades were designed to emphasise the strong alphabet presence of the company name B“V”H.
A central courtyard was also carved into the centre of the building to allow for more light reaching into the office spaces. Nako windows were installed at high levels of all office spaces for natural cross and stack ventilation throughout the central courtyard in order to reduce usage of air-conditioning.
The building has also been kept as “raw” as possible with exposed bare concrete, red bricks applied with waterproofing solution, simple aluminium framed tinted glass, exposed ceiling throughout, and not a single drip of paint used.
